The temperature of industrial kilns is particularly high. We usually use refractory bricks and refractory materials as the lining of kilns to prevent high temperature, acid and alkali erosion, mechanical damage, etc. What are the commonly used kiln refractory bricks? How do we choose them?

Clay refractory bricks: The general density is 1.8-2.0g/cm³ (ordinary), 2.05-2.20g/cm³ (dense), 2.25-2.30g/cm³ (high density). Its Al₂O₃ content is generally more than 40%, and the Fe₂O₃ content is less than 2.0-2.5%. The clinker in the ingredients is 65-85%, and the bonding clay is 35-15%. The crushed bonding clay and the ground clinker are mixed and ground, and then mixed with the granular clinker to make semi-dry mud, high-pressure molding, and fired at about 1400℃, with good performance. Clay bricks are weakly acidic at high temperatures, and their ability to resist alkaline slag erosion is slightly poor, but it increases with the increase of Al2O2 content. The thermal stability is better than that of silica bricks, magnesia bricks, etc. Qualified high-alumina clay bricks are vacuum impregnated with phosphoric acid after drying, and then sintered at low temperature for the second time. They can be used to build the upper lining of the blast furnace body, mainly used in metallurgy, building materials, chemicals, petroleum, machinery manufacturing, silicates, power and other industrial fields.

High-alumina bricks: used in high-temperature and wear-resistant areas of general furnaces or masonry, burner bricks and masonry with special requirements. The vault in the high-temperature zone of the combustion chamber is allowed to use at a temperature of 1300-1650℃.

Lightweight clay bricks: as furnace linings that are not corroded by high-temperature slag and corrosive gases, the use temperature is between 1150 and 1400℃ depending on the capacity.

Lightweight high-alumina bricks: used for heat-resistant linings with working temperatures below 1350℃, and can also be used for masonry without high-temperature molten material corrosion and scouring, and can be directly in contact with flames.

General corundum bricks: suitable for the lining of the fire-facing surface of heavy oil gasification furnaces with working pressures below 3MPa, important parts of the lining of salt-containing wastewater incinerators, and radiant burner bricks working at high temperatures. The use temperature is below 1600-1670℃.

Low-silicon fused corundum bricks: suitable for strong reducing atmospheres, high-pressure hydrogen, and high-temperature water vapor, such as the gas collecting pipe lining of the first-stage reformer and the lining bricks of the second-stage reformer of large-scale synthetic ammonia units, and high-temperature furnace linings. The use temperature is below 1600℃-1670℃.

Lightweight alumina products: used for heat-resistant and heat-insulating linings of high-temperature furnaces and kilns, as well as linings corroded by high-temperature and high-pressure water vapor. They are generally used on non-fire-facing linings, and the use temperature is below 1400℃.

Silicon carbide refractory products: have good thermal conductivity, good thermal stability, can resist reducing atmosphere, and have high strength. They are often used as heat-resistant and wear-resistant linings, as well as occasions that require good thermal stability, thermal conductivity and resistance to reducing atmosphere.

When selecting refractory bricks for industrial kilns, factors such as the operating temperature, working environment, and corrosive media of the kiln need to be considered to ensure the selection of the appropriate type of refractory bricks. At the same time, attention should also be paid to the quality and dimensional accuracy of refractory bricks to ensure the quality of masonry and the service life of the kiln.
